AS A GYNECOLOGIST AND PLASTIC SURGEON WHO RECOGNIZES THE CHALLENGES
WOMEN FACE, TROY WILLIAMS HAS SET A NEW STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE IN
WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE AT MOORPARK WOMEN’S HEALTH & SPA, THE FIRST AND
ONLY OBGYN OFFICE IN THE CITY THAT FEATURES SPA SERVICES, COSMETIC
SURGERY AND A LASER CENTER ALL UNDER THE SAME ROOF.
“THE CAREER PATH of becoming a gynecologist as well as a cosmetic
surgeon developed over many years of hard work and decision making,”
said Williams, a married father of two who lives in Thousand Oaks. “I
have always had a passion for surgery, but during residency I found a
love for women’s health care. Now I believe the two are a perfect
match.”
Williams, who opened his practice in 2008 near Park Lane and New Los
Angeles Avenue in Moorpark, is now known as the first OBGYN with such a
specialized practice in the city of 38,000 residents.
“Moorpark Women's Health has always focused on providing women with
therapies and treatments that are derived directly from evidence-based
medicine,” emphasized Williams, who also serves at Simi Valley Hospital,
Los Robles Hospital, Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital and Linden Crest
Surgery Center of Beverly Hills. “We aim to keep up with the standard of
care that is changing every day thanks to research in hormone therapy
and cancer prevention.”
For instance, “we provide Colposcopy (microscopic examination of the
cervix) for abnormal pap smears, on-site ultrasounds by a licensed
technician, and BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 testing for those at risk for
hereditary breast or ovarian cancer,” said Williams, whose office cares
for women 16 to 86 years old.
Additionally, “we are doing a great deal of counseling on hormone
replacement therapy these days, but we also perform a large number of
well-woman exams which involve routine screening for cervical cancer,
breast cancer, ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer.”
Moorpark Women’s Health & Spa is also the home of the Trillium
Medical Spa and Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center, where Williams serves
as a long-standing member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
His particular field of expertise is Cosmetic Gynecologic Surgery
including Vaginoplasty, (reconstruction of normal youthful vaginal
anatomy), Labiaplasty (reduction or augmentation of the labia majora or
minora), Clitoral Hood Reduction and Mons Pubis Reduction (fatty tissue
reduction, often post-bariatric surgery).
“As of recent I have joined Beverly Hills Physicians.Com,” he added. “I
am excited to share my surgical expertise with the well-established
breast and facial cosmetic surgeons there this spring.”
In addition to gynecologic and cosmetic surgery options, the practice
offers a range of spa services, including Swedish, deep tissue,
chiropractic and hot stone massage, full body waxing, reflexology,
prenatal massage, facials and skin peels. For those looking to lose a
few inches, one exclusive offering is called Velashape body contouring, a
non-surgical option for circumferential reduction and treatment of
cellulite. Other signature services include Ayur Medic Skin Care, a
highly effective cosmeceutical product line that uses the most advanced
dermatological research to date, as well as Obagi Skin Care, which is
considered the preferred choice of physicians around the world for
prescription-strength product lines that transform skin.
“Our aesthetician is Danielle Remijio who comes to us from Nordstrom at
the Oaks Mall. She has been there for several years and is a great
addition,” Williams said. “Our massage therapist is April Connelly; her
background includes chiropractic massage and her specialty is
therapeutic-targeted massage.”
While seeking a location to open the practice, he chose the city of
Moorpark because it’s “a thriving city with a diverse community of young
families as well as retirees,” said Williams, who was a resident
physician at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, before moving
to Ventura County.
As the first tenant in a building that is entirely dedicated to medical
practitioners, Williams’ office provides comprehensive women’s health
care to the cities of Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Simi
Valley and beyond.
“Our philosophy is that we are focused on listening to women and what
women want from their health care providers,” said Williams, whose
office provides health care and maintenance advice that meets the
standards set forth by The American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists and the American Medical Association. “Our goal is that we
are as up-to-date as the latest cutting-edge research available in the
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the
New England Journal of Medicine.”
Bioidentical Hormone Therapy, for example, became a popular buzzword
after it was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. “There’s a lot of
interest in bioidentical - or so-called natural - hormone therapy for
menopause symptoms,” Williams said. “However, in my opinion there’s no
evidence that bioidentical hormones are safer or more effective than
standard hormone replacement therapy.”
He explained that bioidentical hormones are custom-mixed formulas
containing various hormones that are chemically identical to those
naturally made by the body. These prescription and over-the-counter
products are marketed as being tailored to a woman’s individual hormone
needs, typically determined through saliva hormone testing.
Manufacturers claim that bioidentical hormones are safer than standard,
FDA-approved hormone therapy.
The truth, Williams said, is that bioidentical estrogen and progesterone
are available in FDA-approved hormone therapy products that are plant
derived, including Estradiol ? which comes in the form of Enjuvia and
Estrace, as well as the Climara patch and Vivelle-Dot patch ? and
natural progesterone, also known as Prometrium.
“These products come in many different doses and forms,” Williams said.
“So, you don’t need to turn to unregulated, individually compounded
products as your only source of natural hormones.”
In the area of lowered sex drive, testosterone replacement is warranted
if clinically found to be decreased in an individual. “What surprises
many, however, is how vital testosterone is for a woman’s bone growth,
overall well-being, and sex drive,” Williams said. “Testosterone may
help prevent skin wrinkling and thinning, along with protecting against
muscle, ligament and bone deterioration. Side effects, such as abnormal
hair growth and acne, only occur when the dosage is too high.”
Ultimately, the practice is based on the belief that customers’ needs
are of the utmost importance, Williams said. “Our entire team is
committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our
business is from repeat customers and referrals.”
Reflecting on his wide range of services, “it’s fun to offer so many
different options and provide women with positive outcomes ... I love
patients and love seeing people receiving appropriate health care.
Unfortunately, women’s health care needs haven’t always been met
appropriately and there are many women who are afraid to go to their
gynecologist. For some it is discomfort they felt during an exam. For
others it is years of having their health concerns and questions ignored
by doctors who would not make time for them. My personal goal is that
the women of our community will be able to feel confident that there is
first class health care available in their area.”
